Ascension LLC is seeking a Technical Writer and Training & Exercise Facilitator to support a government client’s IT policy assessment, documentation standardization, compliance documentation, and training implementation effort.
This role is critical to ensuring that policies are clearly written, standardized, compliant with regulatory frameworks, and effectively adopted across the enterprise. The selected consultant will transform technical and governance requirements into structured documentation packages, executive-ready summaries, and practical training and tabletop exercise materials that enable staff understanding and operational readiness.
The ideal candidate is a structured thinker and strong communicator who understands how policy, compliance, and operational execution intersect. This individual must be comfortable working in regulated environments and capable of translating complex IT governance requirements into accessible, actionable documentation and training content.
This role is essential to ensuring that policies are not only written but understood, tested, and institutionalized.
Position Summary
The Technical Writer / Training & Exercise Facilitator supports documentation quality, compliance alignment, executive communication, and enterprise training delivery. This consultant will:
- Format and standardize all policy documentation
- Develop compliance documentation packages aligned with regulatory frameworks
- Prepare executive summaries for leadership review
- Develop training materials and facilitator guides
- Develop tabletop exercise materials and recurring testing plans
- Deliver citywide or agency-wide staff training sessions
The ideal candidate is:
- Detail-oriented and process-driven
- Skilled at organizing complex regulatory information
- Comfortable facilitating executive and staff-level discussions
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Experienced in developing structured documentation packages
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
The consultant must be capable of anticipating adoption risks, aligning documentation with operational realities, and ensuring professional deliverables suitable for executive and audit review.
Day-to-Day / Ongoing Responsibilities
- Format and standardize IT policy documents to ensure structural consistency and compliance alignment
- Develop comprehensive compliance documentation packages including crosswalks, references, and appendices
- Prepare executive summaries highlighting key policy changes, risk areas, and adoption requirements
- Draft and revise policies in collaboration with technical SMEs and leadership
- Develop training slide decks, facilitator guides, and participant materials
- Design tabletop exercise scenarios aligned with policy requirements and operational risks
- Facilitate tabletop exercises and document lessons learned
- Deliver staff training sessions in virtual and in-person settings
- Develop recurring testing and policy validation plans
- Incorporate feedback from stakeholders and update materials accordingly
- Ensure all documentation meets professional presentation standards and accessibility requirements
