Protect our Land, Ascend with Us!

Ascension LLC seeks an experienced Producer and Director to support hospital communications and public affairs at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. You turn command messages, patient experiences, medical advances, and hospital initiatives into accurate, engaging video content for patients, families, staff, military leaders, and the public. Your work helps the medical center communicate clearly, strengthen audience understanding, and deliver consistent messages across its communication channels.

The ideal candidate brings strong visual storytelling, professional camera and audio skills, advanced editing and motion graphics capabilities, and demonstrated experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a comparable regulated environment. You are comfortable conducting sensitive hospital interviews and balancing creative decisions with privacy safeguards, operational constraints, and Government review requirements.

Summary of the Contractor Role

You lead video projects from initial concept through approved final delivery. Working with the hospital communications team, you develop the video content calendar, define production requirements, prepare scripts and storyboards, coordinate participants and locations, direct filming, and complete editing and post-production. Products include command messages, patient testimonials, educational and promotional videos, event coverage, and social media shorts.

Success requires an organized, self-driven professional who anticipates production problems, resolves scheduling conflicts, manages concurrent assignments, and communicates clearly with clinical staff, interview participants, public affairs personnel, and leadership. You exercise empathy and discretion, maintain attention to detail, and work effectively with limited day-to-day supervision while following established priorities and approval procedures. You identify unclear requirements early, translate feedback into workable revisions, and keep projects moving without compromising factual accuracy or patient privacy.

The role uses professional video cameras, microphones, audio recorders, lighting equipment, editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, motion graphics software such as Adobe After Effects, and color grading tools. Production calendars, schedules, shot lists, review trackers, organized media storage, and hospital-approved privacy and release workflows support reliable delivery. Government approval precedes release of content.

Responsibilities and Anticipated Activities

Develop and maintain a strategic video content calendar aligned with hospital communication priorities, command messages, campaigns, and events.

Plan production schedules, milestones, resource needs, location logistics, and stakeholder reviews for simultaneous video assignments.

Create video concepts, treatments, scripts, storyboards, interview questions, and shot lists that translate complex medical and military information into understandable stories.

Coordinate filming locations, participant availability, access arrangements, and hospital-approved consent and release processes with the appropriate staff.

Conduct sensitive interviews with patients, families, clinicians, subject-matter experts, and leaders using empathy, discretion, and appropriate privacy safeguards.

Direct on-camera participants and capture professional footage, interviews, and supporting visuals using suitable camera, lighting, and audio techniques.

Produce command messages, patient testimonials, promotional and educational videos, event coverage, and short-form social media content.

Edit footage and perform motion graphics development, color correction and grading, sound mixing, and final export for the intended delivery channels.

Apply HIPAA and PHI safeguards throughout planning, filming, editing, storage, review, and release; flag potentially sensitive content for authorized review.

Collaborate with writers, editors, graphic designers, public affairs staff, and clinical stakeholders to maintain consistent narratives and visual messaging.

Manage stakeholder feedback and version control, resolve conflicting edits, and route products for final sign-off from the senior videographer and leadership.

Inspect, maintain, inventory, and track the lifecycle of video and audio equipment; recommend repairs, replacements, or technology improvements.

Organize footage, project files, approved masters, and supporting documentation for secure retrieval, reuse, and transition in accordance with applicable procedures.

Track project status, delivery dates, production issues, and resource needs; provide updates that support contractor progress reporting.

Support contingency activations or exercises outside normal duty hours when required and coordinated through the contractor management team.
