Multimedia, Accessibility, and LMS Specialist 2026P-0716
Ascension is seeking an experienced Multimedia, Accessibility & Learning Management System Specialist to transform complex patent-examination, legal, regulatory, and procedural training materials into visually engaging, intuitive, technically reliable, and accessible eLearning products.
This individual will combine four complementary capabilities within one position:
- Multimedia and graphic design
- Section 508 and WCAG accessibility
- Learner experience and interface design
- LMS packaging, publishing, testing, and troubleshooting
The specialist will support the modernization of the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Training Academy, which currently consists of approximately 125 courses and prepares roughly 963 new patent examiners annually. A major initial responsibility will be supporting the conversion of at least 25 instructor-led courses, ranging from one to 2.5 hours each, into accessible eLearning modules within approximately three months.
The ideal candidate is both a creative visual professional and a disciplined technical producer. The successful candidate can work independently, manage multiple course-production priorities, interpret complex content, collaborate effectively with instructional designers and technical subject-matter experts, and consistently deliver accessible learning products under compressed schedules.
Summary of the Contractor Role
The Multimedia, Accessibility & LMS Specialist will design and produce the visual, interactive, and technical components of USPTO eLearning courses. The specialist will help ensure that each module is visually consistent, learner-centered, Section 508 compliant, technically accurate, properly packaged, and ready for publication through the designated learning environment.
Working with instructional designers, eLearning developers, patent or intellectual-property subject-matter experts, and project leadership, the specialist will turn approved storyboards and complex source material into usable digital-learning experiences. This includes creating course templates, graphics, user-interface components, multimedia, captions, accessible interactions, and final LMS packages.
The role will also perform quality assurance and accessibility testing, correct identified defects, manage course-version controls, and troubleshoot publishing or playback problems. Because the source material may address highly technical legal and patent-examination topics, the specialist must organize information clearly without changing its intended meaning.
The ideal candidate is:
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Self-directed and dependable in a remote production environment
- Comfortable working in an evolving or ambiguous environment
- Skilled at identifying problems and recommending practical solutions
- Able to balance creativity, accessibility, technical performance, and deadlines
- Receptive to structured reviews and subject-matter-expert feedback
- Capable of managing several courses or production workstreams concurrently
Anticipated Day-to-Day Activities
The Multimedia, Accessibility & LMS Specialist will:
- Develop accessible eLearning modules using Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, or comparable authoring platforms.
- Create visually consistent course templates, layouts, navigation controls, interactive elements, illustrations, diagrams, and supporting graphics.
- Translate approved instructional-design documents and storyboards into functional multimedia learning products.
- Apply learner-centered user-experience principles to course navigation, information hierarchy, visual flow, readability, and interaction design.
- Incorporate appropriate simulations, scenarios, knowledge checks, microlearning elements, and gamified interactions.
- Produce multimedia assets such as graphics, animations, screen demonstrations, audio components, and edited video segments.
- Coordinate with instructional designers and patent, intellectual-property, legal, and examination-procedure subject-matter experts.
- Preserve the legal and technical accuracy of source materials throughout visual and multimedia production.
- Implement Section 508 and applicable WCAG accessibility requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
- Create alternative text, captions, transcripts, accessible labels, logical reading order, visible focus indicators, and keyboard-accessible interactions.
- Test course content using keyboard-only navigation, accessibility checkers, screen readers, color-contrast tools, and manual inspection techniques.
- Remediate accessibility defects identified through internal reviews, Government reviews, or acceptance testing.
- Package learning products using SCORM or other LMS-compatible standards specified by the customer.
- Publish course packages to the designated development, testing, or production LMS environment.
- Validate course launch, navigation, bookmarking, completion status, assessment scoring, and learner-progress tracking.
- Troubleshoot compatibility, browser, media-playback, publishing, tracking, and LMS integration problems.
- Optimize multimedia files to support acceptable loading time and technical performance without reducing accessibility or instructional quality.
- Conduct functional quality-control reviews before courses are submitted for stakeholder approval.
- Maintain organized source files, published packages, accessibility records, test results, media libraries, and version histories.
- Track production status, review comments, defects, resolutions, and final approvals.
- Participate in design reviews, production meetings, accessibility reviews, demonstrations, and lessons-learned discussions.
- Meet accelerated production schedules supporting the conversion of at least 25 courses within approximately three months.
- Protect Government-furnished information and comply with Ascension and USPTO information-handling procedures.
