Ascension LLC is seeking a highly skilled Front-End Developer to support the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC Water) Corporate Website Re-Design initiative.
This is a mission-impact role supporting a high-visibility public utility website serving approximately 1.9 million customers. The redesigned platform must meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, integrate interactive mapping tools, support emergency communications, and provide intuitive, mobile-first experiences for diverse audiences including residents, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Summary of the Contractor Role
The Front-End Developer will be responsible for implementing responsive, accessible, and performance-optimized user interfaces aligned to approved UX/UI mockups and CMS architecture.
This role supports:
- Template development (Home, Secondary, Tertiary layouts)
- Accessibility implementation (WCAG 2.1 AA compliance)
- Interactive map integration and dashboard components
- Emergency alert display patterns
- CMS-integrated front-end theming
- Cross-browser/device compatibility
- UI performance optimization
The role requires both technical depth and public-sector delivery discipline.
Day-to-Day Activities
- Develop responsive front-end templates using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and modern frameworks
- Translate Figma/mockup designs into pixel-perfect, standards-compliant code
- Implement WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility features including keyboard navigation, focus states, ARIA labels, and semantic structure
- Optimize page performance including image compression, lazy loading, and code minification
- Integrate front-end components into CMS environment (WordPress or equivalent COTS platform)
- Implement accessible navigation systems including collapsible mobile menus and mega-navigation
- Support emergency alert banner implementation with high-visibility contrast compliance
- Test across modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) and mobile devices
- Collaborate with QA to remediate accessibility and usability findings
- Support staging-to-production deployment cycles
- Document front-end component standards for long-term maintainability
