Ascension LLC is seeking a technically strong, security-minded DevOps Support Engineer to support the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC Water) Corporate Website Re-Design initiative.
This role is critical to ensuring that WSSC’s new public-facing website is:
- Secure and resilient
- Performance-optimized
- Environmentally stable across development, staging, and production
- Compliant with public-sector security expectations

WSSC Water’s website is a high-visibility, mission-critical platform serving more than 1.9 million customers across Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties DUE 2026.02.04_RFP89585_SUBK_WS…. The DevOps Support Engineer will ensure the CMS platform, hosting infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and security controls support uninterrupted service delivery.

Position Summary
The DevOps Support Engineer will directly support the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC Water) in the execution of Solicitation No. 89585 – Corporate Website Re-Design. This role is dedicated to ensuring that WSSC Water’s public-facing corporate website is deployed, maintained, and operated within a secure, stable, and performance-optimized infrastructure environment.
In support of WSSC Water’s Corporate Website Re-Design initiative, the DevOps Support Engineer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining properly segregated development, staging, and production environments; implementing structured CI/CD deployment pipelines; enforcing configuration governance; and ensuring compliance with security, accessibility, and operational requirements appropriate for a public utility serving more than 1.9 million customers.
The DevOps Support Engineer will work in coordination with the WSSC Water project stakeholders, Ascension’s Project Manager, Lead Developer, and Security personnel to ensure that the website infrastructure supports reliable public access, rapid emergency communications, controlled release cycles, and long-term maintainability. This role is essential to minimizing operational risk during launch and sustaining performance and security throughout the lifecycle of the WSSC Water corporate website.
Key Responsibilities and Day-to-Day Activities
- Configure and manage development, staging, and production environments
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to support structured code deployment
- Establish and maintain secure hosting configurations (cloud or managed hosting platforms)
- Configure SSL certificates, firewalls, CDN, and caching layers
- Implement automated backups and disaster recovery processes
- Monitor uptime, performance, and system health using approved monitoring tools
- Optimize performance through caching, image compression, and resource management
- Support CMS updates, patching, and plugin/module lifecycle management
- Perform vulnerability scanning and remediate identified risks
- Coordinate release schedules with development and project management teams
- Document deployment procedures, rollback plans, and configuration baselines
- Support incident response during production issues
- Ensure compliance with security best practices and public-sector standards
- Maintain version control governance using Git-based repositories
- Conduct pre-release validation and post-release verification
