Database Administrator – SQL Server / Databricks 2026P-0693
Protect our Land, Ascend with Us!
Ascension is seeking an experienced Database Administrator with strong Microsoft SQL Server, ETL, data warehousing, and modern data-platform expertise to provide specialized support to the U.S. Coast Guard’s Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber and Intelligence (C5I) organization.
This individual will help establish and maintain the secure, reliable data foundation required to support Coast Guard business performance measurement, data integration, automated reporting, analytics, and decision support. The position is particularly important because C5I is integrating disparate organizational data and moving toward automated visualization and AI-assisted analysis using technologies including Databricks and Qlik.
The ideal candidate is not simply someone who maintains a SQL database. Ascension needs someone who understands how data moves from operational source systems through ETL processes into trusted databases, data warehouses, lakehouse environments, dashboards, and analytical products.
The successful candidate should be technically self-sufficient, methodical, security-conscious, and comfortable operating in a federal Agile environment. This person should be capable of diagnosing complex data problems, identifying root causes, proposing practical solutions, and communicating technical concepts to both technical personnel and Government business stakeholders.
Because this is an optional surge position, candidates should also be comfortable supporting a workload that may fluctuate based on Government priorities and Agile sprint requirements.
Summary of the Contractor Role
The Database Administrator will support USCG C5I by administering SQL Server databases and associated data solutions; developing and maintaining ETL processes; supporting organizational data warehouse and lakehouse capabilities; protecting data integrity; and enabling reliable access to information needed for business intelligence and performance-management activities.
The DBA will develop, implement, administer, and maintain databases that interface with Coast Guard source systems and enable accurate, timely information delivery to Government data stakeholders. The individual will write SQL queries, design database structures, develop stored procedures, views, and functions, validate data integrity, and assist the Government in implementing high-quality database administration practices.
The position will also support integration with technologies such as Databricks, Lakehouse, Unity Catalog, Power BI, Qlik, Grafana, Python, and Jupyter Notebook. The DBA may be required to obtain privileged information-system access and must therefore be capable of complying with applicable NIST 800-53 and DHS/USCG security controls.
The DBA should also be comfortable working as part of a Government-led Agile/Scrum environment. The broader task order requires contractor personnel to integrate with Government personnel during Sprint Planning, Backlog Reviews, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives and to complete assigned user stories and product increments.
Position Day-to-Day / Assigned Activities
The Database Administrator will be expected to:
- ADMINISTER Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting Coast Guard C5I operational, analytical, and performance-management requirements.
- DEVELOP and maintain Extract, Transform, and Load processes that integrate structured and potentially disparate organizational data sources.
- DESIGN database tables, schemas, relationships, views, functions, and stored procedures supporting reporting and analytical requirements.
- WRITE and optimize SQL queries used to retrieve, validate, transform, reconcile, and analyze operational data.
- VALIDATE database integrity, completeness, consistency, accuracy, and reliability before information is made available to Government stakeholders.
- DEVELOP and maintain data solutions supporting organizational data warehouses and modern lakehouse environments.
- SUPPORT integration between SQL-based data solutions and Databricks, Lakehouse, Unity Catalog, Power BI, Qlik, Grafana, Python, and Jupyter Notebook environments.
- TROUBLESHOOT database, query, data-integration, data-quality, and performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- IMPLEMENT effective database administration, data-management, configuration-control, and documentation practices based on accepted Government and industry standards.
- PROTECT Government information and administer access consistent with NIST 800-53, DHS security policies, CUI requirements, and applicable privileged-user controls.
- COLLABORATE with business analysts, data analysts, Government developers, process owners, stakeholders, and other technical personnel to translate business and analytical requirements into effective database solutions.
- PARTICIPATE in Agile Sprint Planning, Backlog Reviews, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives, and other Government-led technical working sessions when assigned.
- DOCUMENT database configurations, data structures, ETL processes, business rules, technical procedures, data lineage, and troubleshooting procedures.
- MAINTAIN technical products in Government-approved Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, shared-drive, and other collaboration environments using required naming conventions and version control.
- TRAIN Government and contractor personnel in database administration methods, data-management procedures, and related technical practices.
- COMMUNICATE database risks, dependencies, performance issues, technical alternatives, and recommended courses of action to Government stakeholders.
- SUPPORT accessible and accurate analytical outputs where database solutions feed Power BI, Qlik, dashboards, reports, or other Section 508-applicable ICT products.
- RESPOND to changing Government requirements, priorities, and technical issues while managing multiple assignments with limited supervision.
