Data / Migration & Document Management Specialist 2026P-0184
Ascension LLC is seeking a Data / Migration & Document Management Specialist to support a high-visibility Proof of Concept (POC) initiative for WSSC focused on modernizing legacy FileNet-based document management and scanning systems into a Microsoft-based architecture leveraging SharePoint Embedded and Azure Document Intelligence.
This role is critical to the success of the engagement, as it directly supports the design, configuration, migration, and validation of document storage, metadata structures, and search/retrieval capabilities that underpin the new solution. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise content management (ECM), metadata schema design, OCR/ICR validation, and document indexing/search optimization.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technical specialist who thrives at the intersection of data architecture, document workflows, and modern cloud-based content platforms, and who wants to play a hands-on role in demonstrating how legacy systems can be transformed into scalable, intelligent solutions.
Position Summary
The Data / Migration & Document Management Specialist will lead the configuration and validation of SharePoint Embedded as the target document repository, ensuring that documents generated through both warehouse workflows and scanning processes are properly structured, tagged, versioned, indexed, and retrievable.
This role will support key POC capabilities including:
- Document storage and version control in SharePoint Embedded
- Metadata tagging aligned to business workflows and search use cases
- OCR/ICR data validation using Azure Document Intelligence
- Document classification and indexing
- Batch tracking and audit trail implementation
- Search and retrieval functionality across document repositories
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and process-driven, with the ability to translate business workflows into structured metadata and document management solutions. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced POC environment, where rapid prototyping, validation, and iteration are required.
This role directly supports WSSC’s objective to replace legacy IBM FileNet/DataCap solutions with a modern, Microsoft-centric platform, enabling improved efficiency, transparency, and data accessibility.
Key Responsibilities / Day-to-Day Activities
- Configure SharePoint Embedded document libraries, including folder structures, content types, and access controls
- Develop and implement metadata schemas aligned to business processes and search requirements
- Support OCR/ICR validation workflows using Azure Document Intelligence outputs
- Design and implement document classification and indexing strategies for structured and unstructured content
- Perform data migration planning and execution from legacy systems (e.g., FileNet) to SharePoint
- Validate metadata accuracy and completeness during ingestion and post-processing
- Configure and test document versioning, audit trails, and batch tracking mechanisms
- Support development of metadata-driven search and retrieval functionality
- Collaborate with developers to ensure proper integration between front-end applications, Oracle EBS, and SharePoint Embedded
- Conduct data quality checks and reconciliation activities to ensure integrity of migrated and newly created records
- Assist in testing POC use cases, including scanning, ingestion, indexing, and retrieval workflows
- Document data models, taxonomy structures, and governance standards
- Provide recommendations for data governance, retention policies, and document lifecycle management
