Protect our Land, Ascend with Us!

ASCENSION is seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst III who can step into a mission-driven Department of Defense environment and quickly transform administrative, operational, and program information into accurate reports, analyses, trackers, dashboards, and actionable insights.

This position is particularly well suited for an analyst who combines strong quantitative and business-analysis capabilities with the judgment and adaptability needed to support rapidly emerging Government requirements. The successful candidate will not simply compile data. The analyst should be able to determine what information decision-makers need, identify and validate the appropriate source data, organize disparate information, detect trends or inconsistencies, and translate findings into concise products that Government leaders can use.

The candidate should be highly organized, analytical, discreet, and comfortable operating in a classified federal environment where priorities can shift quickly. Because Task Area 5 exists specifically to provide ad hoc staffing support for Task Areas 1 through 4, the analyst must be capable of moving between administrative operations, executive support, personnel-related information, correspondence and records, acquisition-related information, and other mission-support requirements as workload demands change.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable receiving an incomplete or emerging business question, determining what data or information is required, building a defensible analytical approach, and producing a useful answer without needing highly prescriptive instructions.

Contractor Role Summary

The Business Data Analyst III will provide on-demand analytical, reporting, data management, and decision-support services supporting the Office of Military Commissions’ administrative functions. The position will supplement OMC personnel during periods of increased workload, special projects, temporary staffing needs, or other mission-driven requirements.

Depending upon the assignment, the analyst may aggregate information from spreadsheets, databases, administrative records, task trackers, personnel records, acquisition documentation, inventory information, correspondence systems, and other authorized Government sources. The analyst will validate and organize data, identify trends or anomalies, prepare reports and visualizations, maintain trackers, support briefings, and help Government personnel improve the processes used to collect and manage information.

The Business Data Analyst III labor category specifically calls for an individual capable of supporting mission-oriented projects and programmatic activities through data analysis, data entry, aggregation, reporting, business-process analysis, dashboard development, workflow optimization, and potentially low-code/no-code automation. The labor category also anticipates collaboration with client leadership to understand business issues, identify key performance indicators, formulate analytical questions, and develop decision-support products.

This is therefore not a narrowly defined statistical analyst position. ASCENSION should recruit someone with a broader combination of business analysis, data management, reporting, administrative operations, and client-support capabilities.

The Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be:

  • Detail-oriented enough to identify data discrepancies before they reach Government decision-makers.
  • Comfortable handling multiple concurrent and changing priorities.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision after receiving an assignment.
  • Skilled at translating operational questions into structured analytical tasks.
  • Comfortable interacting with Government program managers, administrative personnel, senior staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Experienced working with sensitive or classified information.
  • Capable of developing executive-ready reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, briefings, and analytical summaries.
  • Able to quickly learn unfamiliar business processes, systems, terminology, and datasets.
  • Focused on data quality, traceability, accuracy, and timely delivery rather than simply producing attractive reports.

Anticipated Day-to-Day Activities

The specific workload will depend on the Task Area 5 activation and the administrative office being supported. Anticipated responsibilities include:

  • Analyze administrative, programmatic, operational, personnel, acquisition, property, or other authorized business data to answer Government questions and support decision-making.
  • Collect information from approved Government data sources, spreadsheets, databases, reports, shared drives, records, and stakeholder inputs.
  • Aggregate information from multiple sources into structured datasets, trackers, reports, and management summaries.
  • Validate data for completeness, accuracy, consistency, duplication, anomalies, and appropriate formatting before reporting results.
  • Reconcile conflicting or incomplete information and coordinate with appropriate Government personnel to resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop recurring and ad hoc reports that summarize workload, status, trends, risks, outstanding actions, or other Government-defined performance information.
  • Create spreadsheets, analytical models, dashboards, charts, tables, briefing graphics, and other decision-support products.
  • Identify meaningful trends, patterns, exceptions, bottlenecks, and emerging issues in administrative and operational data.
  • Translate Government business questions and requirements into clearly defined analytical tasks and reporting products.
  • Define appropriate measures, performance indicators, data fields, calculation methodologies, and reporting logic when requested.
  • Maintain data repositories, spreadsheets, trackers, databases, and supporting documentation used for ongoing administrative reporting.
  • Prepare executive-ready summaries, briefing materials, presentations, decision memos, and supporting analytical narratives.
  • Support daily, weekly, monthly, or ad hoc task-status reporting and action-item tracking when assigned.
  • Research information necessary to support administrative, acquisition, personnel, correspondence, or other mission-support requests.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of acquisition-related information, including market research and administrative acquisition documentation when assigned.
  • Support analysis of property, inventory, equipment, personnel, correspondence, records, or other administrative information associated with Task Areas 1 through 4.
  • Evaluate current information-management and reporting processes and recommend opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, standardization, or usability.
  • Document analytical methodologies, assumptions, data sources, calculations, definitions, and business rules so that analytical products are reproducible and defensible.
  • Standardize recurring reports, templates, trackers, and data-collection mechanisms when opportunities for improvement are identified.
  • Automate repetitive data-management or reporting activities using approved low-code/no-code or Microsoft tools when appropriate and authorized.
  • Collaborate with process owners and Government stakeholders to understand business needs, information requirements, and reporting expectations.
  • Coordinate with other contractor personnel to obtain required information and complete time-sensitive analytical assignments.
  • Monitor deadlines, deliverables, data calls, reporting requirements, and assigned actions to support timely completion.
  • Protect classified, sensitive, Privacy Act, personnel, and Government information in accordance with applicable security and information-handling requirements.
  • Respond rapidly to emerging analytical requirements and special projects generated by changes in OMC mission needs.
