Protect our Land, Ascend with Us!

ASCENSION is seeking a highly organized and execution-focused Project Manager I to coordinate a federal grant management training engagement supporting the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.

The Project Manager will serve as the operational backbone of the engagement, ensuring that curriculum development, Government coordination, training schedules, virtual session delivery, quality reviews, and post-training reporting remain synchronized throughout the assignment.

This role is well suited for a project professional who enjoys managing clearly defined deliverables, coordinating subject matter experts, maintaining schedules and action items, anticipating delivery risks, and keeping both consultants and client stakeholders aligned.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, comfortable operating independently in a remote environment, and capable of managing a relatively small but deadline-sensitive federal engagement without unnecessary administrative overhead.

This is not an enterprise program-management role. The successful candidate should be comfortable providing hands-on coordination rather than overseeing multiple large teams or complex enterprise portfolios.

Contractor Role Summary

The Project Manager I will manage schedule, quality, cost, scope, deliverables, client coordination, and administrative execution for a remote federal training program addressing four grant management subject areas.

DOL requires training in:

  • Federal Award Cost Principles under 2 CFR Part 200, Subpart E
  • Advanced Cost Principles and Questioned Costs
  • Fraud Prevention and Detection in Federal Grants
  • Developing and Monitoring Indirect Cost Rate Proposals

The Government requires at least two sessions for each of the four subject areas, creating a minimum of eight training sessions, with capacity for up to 100 training slots per subject area.

Curriculum and dates for all sessions must be coordinated with the Government shortly after award, and written summary reports are required following training sessions.

The Project Manager will therefore focus heavily on schedule discipline, instructor coordination, deliverable tracking, quality control, meeting management, and timely communication with the Government.

Day-to-Day / Periodic Responsibilities

The Project Manager I will:

  • Develop and maintain the integrated project schedule covering kickoff, curriculum development, Government review, training dates, reporting deadlines, and contract closeout.
  • Coordinate with the DOL Contracting Officer’s Representative and appropriate Government stakeholders to establish training dates and resolve scheduling issues.
  • Organize kickoff meetings, recurring status meetings, training preparation meetings, rehearsals, and internal quality-control reviews.
  • Track contractual milestones, deliverables, dependencies, Government comments, action items, decisions, risks, and outstanding issues.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Federal Grants Management Instructor/SME and any supporting consultants.
  • Monitor development of curricula for all four training topics to ensure deliverables remain aligned with PWS requirements.
  • Review draft curricula, presentations, handouts, participant materials, and reporting deliverables for completeness, consistency, formatting, and contractual compliance.
  • Manage quality-control checkpoints before materials are provided to the Government.
  • Facilitate internal readiness reviews before each virtual training session.
  • Confirm virtual-platform readiness, instructor availability, training materials, attendance-management procedures, and logistical requirements before each session.
  • Maintain risk, issue, action-item, decision, and deliverable trackers.
  • Identify schedule, resource, quality, or performance risks early and develop practical mitigation actions.
  • Coordinate makeup or alternative sessions when required to accommodate participant scheduling needs.
  • Monitor completion of written summary reports following training sessions.
  • Compile project status information for Government progress meetings.
  • Document meeting decisions, Government direction, action items, and required follow-up activities.
  • Ensure contractor-produced documents are appropriately identified as contractor work products when required.
  • Support preparation of the final consolidated summary report covering training delivery and results.
  • Maintain organized electronic project records supporting contract administration and closeout.
  • Escalate potential scope, schedule, quality, or performance concerns to ASCENSION leadership before they affect Government deliverables.
