Ascension is seeking a detail-oriented Communications Specialist / Technical Writer to support federal mission programs through the development, editing, and management of high-quality documentation, reports, briefings, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and stakeholder communications products.
The ideal candidate will support government program teams by transforming complex information, operational data, policies, and program activities into clear, concise, and professional communications materials that enable effective decision-making, stakeholder alignment, and mission execution.
This position is ideal for a communications professional who combines strong writing and editing skills with the ability to understand federal program environments, organize complex information, maintain document quality standards, and collaborate with technical and program management teams.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment supporting multiple priorities, managing competing deadlines, and producing client-ready deliverables with minimal supervision.
Summary of Contractor Role
The Communications Specialist / Technical Writer will provide documentation, reporting, and communications support for federal healthcare and mission-support programs, including the development and maintenance of SOPs, reports, briefing materials, executive presentations, meeting materials, and other program communications products.
Supporting DHA’s Disability Evaluation System (DES) Support requirement, this role contributes to program effectiveness by ensuring that operational information, program updates, analytical findings, and policy-related content are accurately documented, professionally formatted, and effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders. The DES requirement identifies the need for briefing, reporting, and written documentation support, including development of reports, presentations, and recurring/ad hoc communications products.
The ideal candidate will help establish consistency in documentation practices through document templates, formatting standards, version control, editing processes, and quality reviews. The role supports program teams by preparing materials that communicate program performance, compliance activities, operational updates, and recommendations.
Position Day-to-Day Activities
The Communications Specialist / Technical Writer will:
- Develop, edit, format, and proofread program documentation, reports, SOPs, briefing materials, and executive communications.
- Prepare professional PowerPoint presentations, briefing packages, decision documents, and stakeholder communications materials.
- Review documents for grammar, formatting consistency, accuracy, readability, and compliance with established standards.
- Create and maintain document templates, style guides, formatting standards, and communication artifacts.
- Support development of recurring program reports, status updates, and analytical summaries.
- Coordinate with program managers, analysts, and subject matter experts to gather information and develop client-ready products.
- Document meeting outcomes, action items, decisions, and follow-up activities.
- Support knowledge management activities including document organization, version control, and repository maintenance.
- Assist with preparation of leadership briefings and stakeholder engagement materials.
- Ensure communications products meet accessibility and formatting requirements, including Section 508 considerations where applicable.
- Maintain awareness of program objectives, policies, procedures, and operational priorities to ensure communications products accurately reflect mission requirements.
