Ascension is seeking a Documentation / Media Specialist I to support a potential strategic communications modernization effort for a federal client. The client’s communications organization is working to move from a traditional, reactive public affairs model to a more proactive, data-informed strategic communications function. The requirement emphasizes integrated content creation, editorial calendaring, multi-channel communications, social media monitoring, advanced digital media production, analytics, AI-enabled communication tools, and staff skills development.
This role is designed for a detail-oriented communications and media support professional who can help produce polished digital and print communication products, support branding consistency, assist with content development, format and edit materials, and maintain communications products across internal and external channels. The ideal candidate will bring strong writing, editing, visual layout, document production, and coordination skills, with the ability to support multiple communication products in a fast-paced federal consulting environment.
Summary of Contractor Role
The Documentation / Media Specialist I will support Ascension and the client team by creating, editing, formatting, and publishing communication materials that help improve the client’s ability to communicate clearly, consistently, and effectively. The role supports digital media campaigns, website and social media content, briefing materials, one-pagers, publications, templates, internal news briefs, reports, and other communication products.
The customer’s broader need is to improve communications workflows, reduce duplicative manual work, enhance the quality of content products, and strengthen measurement of communication effectiveness. The role may support integrated communications tools, editorial calendars, project trackers, SharePoint or web content libraries, Adobe Creative Cloud tools, Microsoft 365, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and AI-enabled writing or design tools where approved. The MAS labor category for Documentation / Media Specialist I requires a bachelor’s degree, two years of experience, and responsibilities such as digital media campaign support, digital content coordination, branding, KPI monitoring, print/electronic collateral design, proofreading, document editing, and preparation of materials for approval.
Expected Day-to-Day Activities
- Develop digital and print communication products, including one-pagers, briefings, flyers, newsletters, social media posts, web content, templates, reports, and internal announcements.
- Edit and proofread communication materials for grammar, clarity, tone, consistency, and alignment with approved style guidance.
- Format documents, slide decks, reports, and publications to ensure professional presentation and client-ready quality.
- Support brand consistency by applying approved logos, templates, colors, fonts, layouts, and visual standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, communications leads, analysts, and SMEs to collect source content and convert it into usable communication products.
- Update internal webpages, SharePoint pages, document libraries, or communications repositories as directed.
- Prepare files for review, approval, publication, printing, or distribution.
- Assist with social media and digital content development, including basic post drafting, image sizing, caption support, and content calendar updates.
- Support editorial calendaring by tracking planned content, due dates, review status, approvals, and publication timing.
- Create or refine PowerPoint slides, infographics, simple graphics, charts, and visual layouts to improve audience understanding.
- Monitor communication product status, version control, file naming, and document organization.
- Apply accessibility and plain-language practices when preparing documents for internal or external distribution.
- Support collection of basic communication performance data, such as reach, engagement, views, clicks, or distribution results, when tools and data are available.
- Participate in team meetings, capture action items, and follow up on assigned production tasks.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional handling of draft materials, internal messaging, and client communications.
