Ascension LLC is seeking a Transportation Planner who will play a critical role in supporting multimodal transportation planning initiatives, land use analysis, and data-driven program delivery for state and local government clients. This role is essential to ensuring that transportation systems are planned, analyzed, and optimized in alignment with regional mobility goals, infrastructure investments, and policy frameworks.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytically driven planner who thrives in complex, fast-paced environments and can translate technical data into actionable insights. This individual will support planning studies, interpret transportation data, and contribute to strategic planning efforts that improve mobility, system performance, and stakeholder outcomes.

Summary of the Contractor Role

The Transportation Planner provides professional-level technical support under the direction of a Project Manager or Principal Planner, contributing to the development, analysis, and execution of transportation planning initiatives.

This role supports the client’s need to:

  • Analyze transportation systems and land use interactions
  • Develop multimodal transportation strategies
  • Evaluate travel trends, freight movement, and system performance
  • Support planning studies and policy development
  • Deliver data-driven recommendations to improve transportation outcomes

The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical expertise, critical thinking, and proactive problem-solving, with the ability to:

  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Navigate ambiguous requirements and evolving priorities
  • Anticipate challenges and develop practical solutions
  • Manage multiple tasks across concurrent planning efforts

Tools & Technologies May Include:

  • GIS Tools (ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Data Analysis Tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Transportation Modeling Tools (as applicable)
  • Microsoft 365 Suite (SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform)
  • Survey and data collection platforms

This role directly supports data analysis, program planning, reporting, and stakeholder-informed decision-making, aligning with Ascension’s strengths in analytics, process improvement, and program support .


Day-to-Day Activities

  • Analyze transportation, land use, and demographic data to support planning studies
  • Prepare technical reports, planning documents, and data summaries
  • Interpret transportation system performance metrics, trends, and forecasts
  • Support development of multimodal transportation plans and strategies
  • Conduct research on best practices, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to gather inputs
  • Develop maps, charts, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings
  • Assist in stakeholder engagement activities, workshops, and meetings
  • Evaluate freight movement patterns, travel demand, and infrastructure impacts
  • Maintain organized documentation, datasets, and analysis outputs
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and data standardization efforts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in: Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, or related field
REQUIRED SKILLSMinimum 4+ years of relevant experience in transportation and land use planning | Experience supporting state and/or local government transportation planning efforts | Strong analytical skills with experience in: Data analysis and interpretation, Transportation trends and system evaluation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s Degree in Planning or related field | AICP Certification (or actively pursuing) | Experience with: Transportation modeling tools, Freight and logistics planning, Travel demand forecasting | Familiarity with: Federal, state, and local transportation policies and funding programs | Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) | Experience supporting multimodal transportation planning initiatives | Knowledge of transportation system management and operations (TSMO) | Exposure to stakeholder engagement and facilitation
SUITABILITY/SECURITY REQUIREMENTSAbility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance (if required by client) | Must be authorized to work in the United States
