Ascension LLC is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Department of Defense, Department of the Navy, NAVAIR Headquarters, Fleet Readiness Center (COMFRC) Procurement Group, in delivering Analytical Support Services for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE).

This role is mission-critical. The Senior Data Engineer will design, engineer, integrate, and sustain data pipelines and analytical infrastructure that enable modeling, simulation, dashboard modernization, and end-to-end aviation readiness analysis across the Naval Aviation Enterprise.

We are seeking a highly technical, systems-minded engineer who understands how to architect enterprise data environments that support:

• Aviation maintenance and readiness analytics
• Common Operational Picture (COP) environments
• C4I data integration
• Modeling and simulation data workflows
• Executive-level dashboards supporting operational decision-making

The ideal candidate thrives in complex DoD environments, understands classified and unclassified data segregation, and can translate operational aviation data into structured, reliable analytical systems.

Summary of the Contractor Role

The Senior Data Engineer will support the Commander, Fleet Readiness Center (COMFRC) Procurement Group under NAVAIR Headquarters in executing the Analytical Support Services IDIQ for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE).

The COMFRC mission requires advanced research, analysis, and development to enhance:

• NAE analytics capability
• Enterprise modeling
• Dashboard improvements
• End-to-end project analysis initiatives

This position directly supports those objectives by designing and sustaining the data architecture that enables analytics, modeling, visualization, and performance reporting across aviation systems.

Specifically, the Senior Data Engineer will:

• Engineer structured and unstructured data ingestion pipelines
• Integrate operational aviation data (maintenance, logistics, readiness, mission data)
• Support modeling environments used for readiness forecasting and scenario analysis
• Enable secure data sharing across classified/unclassified domains
• Optimize databases and enterprise repositories for performance and reliability
• Support dashboard development teams with reliable, governed data layers

The engineer will work closely with Operations Research Analysts, Computer Scientists, and Logistics Analysts to ensure models and dashboards are powered by clean, validated, and accessible data.

This is not simply a back-end database role. This is an operational analytics enabler position that directly impacts naval aviation readiness and decision superiority.

Position Day-to-Day Activities

The Senior Data Engineer will:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest data from multiple structured and semi-structured sources
• Engineer and optimize relational and analytical data models to support reporting, dashboards, and advanced analytics
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using modern data engineering tools and cloud-native services
• Perform data validation, cleansing, normalization, and quality assurance to ensure analytical integrity
• Integrate disparate datasets across operational, logistics, financial, and performance domains
• Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into technical solutions
• Optimize database performance, storage strategies, and query efficiency
• Implement data governance, metadata management, and documentation standards
• Support automation of data refreshes, scheduled processing, and monitoring
• Troubleshoot data pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and integration issues
• Ensure compliance with federal security, privacy, and data-handling requirements
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, and system diagrams
• Support ad hoc data requests and mission-driven analytical needs as required
